Betika Midweek Jackpot

Picks by · Week 42 fixtures · Today's date 18 Oct

The Betika Midweek Jackpot is a 15-game football prediction game run by Betika. Players pick a result — home win, draw, or away win — for each of the 15 matches on the slip. Get all 15 correct and you win the jackpot; get enough correct and you may still qualify for a bonus payout. Entry is KES 15 per play. The jackpot runs on an eight-week Must Be Won cycle — if nobody hits all 15 within those eight weeks, the prize goes to whoever got the most correct predictions in week eight. This page covers the current fixtures, the history of the jackpot, past winners, the rules, and tools to help you plan and check your slip.

⚡ The Must Be Won rule — Betika's signature mechanic

Betika's flagship jackpot operates on an eight-week cycle. If nobody predicts all matches correctly within those eight weeks, the prize is paid to whoever gets the most correct predictions in week eight. The prize is fixed — it does not roll over indefinitely.

Entry is KES 15. The prize is KES 50 million. Someone wins every cycle. That's the structural difference from SportPesa's rollover model.

The Evolution of the Betika Midweek Jackpot

From a KES 15 stake to a guaranteed KES 50 million cycle — how Betika rethought the jackpot model.

2020 — The launch era. Betika launched its Midweek Jackpot with a KES 15 stake and a KES 15 million top prize. Nicholas Kirui, a 43-year-old tea farmer from Nakuru, became the first winner in June 2020, correctly predicting all 15 games with a KES 15 stake.

2021 — Shared wins. Five winners — Josiah Manyara, James Kipyegon, Stephen Angayia, James Chirchir, and Francis Ebei — shared the KES 15 million Midweek Jackpot after correctly predicting 15 games. Betika boosted the pot to KES 21 million, giving each winner KES 3.5 million (Stephen, who had two winning tickets, took KES 7 million).

2025 — Beja's 15-bob miracle. Zablon "Beja" Katana Kahindi, a 32-year-old garment factory worker from Ganze Village in Kilifi County, won KES 15 million after staking just KES 15. He had been encouraged by his fiancée, a junior school teacher, to try the Midweek Jackpot. His first thought was to build a better house for his parents.

2025/2026 — The Must Be Won overhaul. Betika restructured its flagship jackpot around a guarantee: KES 50 million must be won every eight weeks. If no perfect score lands, the closest slip in week eight takes the prize. The entry stayed at KES 15. Smart Play Tokens were introduced to reward consecutive weeks of play, letting loyal players cover uncertain matches without paying extra.

Format note. The Betika Midweek Jackpot runs a 15-game slate — that's the format every major winner from 2020 to 2025 played, and it's the format currently published by the Betika results endpoint.

Beja had been playing Aviator before his fiancée Vicky, a junior school teacher, encouraged him to try the Midweek Jackpot. He staked KES 15 and predicted all 15 games correctly. His plans: build a better house for his parents, buy a plot for rental income, and go back to school to pursue the university education he couldn't afford after high school.

"I never spend more than KES 15 a day," Beja said. Betika CEO Mutua Mutava called his story "one of hope, resilience, and the power of believing in better."

Historical Betika Midweek Odds & Trends

Data across recent Betika Midweek cycles. Source: Surebets internal match database.

Odds reality check: Treating each of the 15 predictions as a pure coin-flip, the odds of a perfect score are roughly 1 in 14 million. Draws are roughly 25% rather than 33%, which lengthens the true odds further. The Must Be Won rule means the prize still lands within eight weeks regardless.

Entry economics: At KES 15 per play, you can place multiple combinations for less than the cost of a SportPesa Mega slip (KES 500). That's Betika's core pitch: affordable volume over single-slip swing.

Rules, Mechanics & Official Regulation

Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya (GRA)

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya (GRA) was established under the Gambling Control Act to regulate and control betting, casinos, and other forms of gambling in Kenya. It replaces the former Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).

All jackpot mechanics, bonus allocations, and payout rules operate under the GRA framework. Betika operates under a licence issued by the Authority. This site is an independent analysis service and is not affiliated with Betika or Safaricom M-Pesa.

Tax on winnings (Finance Act 2025)

There is no separate tax on jackpot winnings. Betting is taxed through two flat 5% excise deductions: 5% on deposit into your betting wallet and 5% on withdrawal to M-PESA. The old 20% withholding on winnings was scrapped.

On a KES 5 million win, the 5% withdrawal excise is KES 250,000, so you'd receive KES 4,750,000. Betika applies the deduction and remits to KRA on your behalf.

Postponed or abandoned matches

Betika's Smart Play Tokens are designed to cover uncertain matches without requiring a pick. If a match is postponed or voided, the token mechanic (or the operator's standard rule) applies. Check Betika's official jackpot terms for the exact treatment in the current cycle.

The Science Behind Match Forecasting

Peer-reviewed research on football prediction.

📄 Elo ratings + machine learning for match forecasting

Mendes-Neves, T., Baghoussi, Y., Meireles, L., Soares, C., & Mendes-Moreira, J. (2025). "Forecasting Soccer Matches through Distributions." arXiv:2501.05873 [stat.AP].

This study presents a method for forecasting soccer match outcomes by forecasting shot quantity and quality distributions. The methodology integrates established Elo ratings with machine learning models. The empirical findings reveal that this approach yields positive returns by taking advantage of established market odds.

What this means for our picks: The Elo-based approach described in this paper underpins the rating component of our own methodology. We combine Elo ratings with goal differential metrics and lineup data to generate our banker and upset-watch selections — scaled to 15 games for the Betika Midweek slip.

How the calculator works: permutation formula

Every double chance pick doubles your total lines. Every triple pick triples them. The formula is:

Total Cost = Base Stake (KES 15) × (2D) × (3T)
D = number of double chances selected · T = number of triples selected

For example, with 5 double chances and 0 triples: 25 = 32 lines × KES 15 = KES 480. That's still less than a single SportPesa Mega slip (KES 500) for 32 combinations.

Methodology

Picks are calculated using a custom Elo rating system combined with head-to-head home/away goal differential metrics, market odds movement tracking, and lineup confirmation data. Historical draw rates and upset frequency are factored into the double-chance cover on upset-watch games. The Elo-based approach is informed by published research on soccer match forecasting, including Mendes-Neves et al. (2025).
